Science Communication module at Newcastle Uni

So let the blogging begin!

The past few months have been spent setting up and organising a new module for third year undergraduates on Biomedical science degree programs.  I was given the title ‘science communication’ and left to interpret what I thought this module would entail.  The focus of the course is a series of talks by guest speakers with a couple of workshops thrown in to help develop particular skills.  It is only a 10 credit module so I had to pick and choose the angle that I wanted the course to be lead.  I really hope that the students signed up for this enjoy the course, it will hopefully expose them to fields they hadn’t considered.  I would also like the course and environment that it is set in to help students, improve confidence and clear thinking and also develop communication skills.  Will this all be possible in 10 week course? Course assessment has proven to be a bit of a mind-field and this is where the Blogs also come in.

There are so many different angles this could be approached and after speaking to lots of people who work/teach science communication the plans for this course see quite reasonable, however this remains to be seen!

Lets just see how it goes for now, roll on October!
